Ex-Dream Theatre Drummer Mike Portnoy Applauds Indonesian YouTuber Who Plays Instruments Out of Recycled Waste
Indonesian YouTuber Deden Pramana, 29, who goes by Deden Noy, posted some covers of Dream Theatre songs on his YouTube account, showing his talents to play a drum set which is made out of recycled materials.
The recycled materials comprise a bucket, plastic water bottles, and tin cans. His cymbal is made out of circle-shaped metal that is usually used for cooking.
Besides Dream Theatre, he has also covered rock genre and heavy metal such as Avenged Sevenfold, System of Down, grunge music such as Nirvana, and the Indonesian band Padi.
Deden, a resident of Batu Lambang Village in the South Bengkulu regency, said he created the music for his YouTube content.
However, due to a budget constraint, he could not afford to buy a drum kit. Therefore he performs on his version of a drum kit.
"I did not have money to buy it [a drum kit], so I made a drum set from recycled waste," said Deden.
The YouTuber got a million views and netizens also shared his videos until he caught the attention of ex-Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy.
In his social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram, Portnoy not only lauds Deden, but he is also trying to raise a fund to buy Deden a new drum kit.
