KOMPAS.com – The Indonesian government said the number of elderly who have died of Covid-19 is high, according to data provided by the Covid-19 handling and national economic recovery committee.
The committee said that the death rate for the elderly stood at 47.3 percent.
Therefore, it is necessary to vaccinate the elderly in the country, the government said.
Indonesia’s Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has set a target of vaccinating all health care workers in the country by the end of this month.

Indonesia Food and Drugs Monitoring Agency (BPOM) said that the number of elderly who have died of Covid-19 is high in the country, an official said on Sunday, February 7.
BPOM head Penny Lukito said that based on the data provided by the Covid-19 handling and national economic recovery committee, the death rate for the elderly reached 47.3 percent.
“It is a must for the government to use the available vaccines, namely Coronavac to be given to the elderly,” Penny said in a virtual press conference on Sunday, February 7.
His office has also immediately searched for data related to the clinical trial process carried out on the elderly in China and Brazil.
The data are needed by the BPOM to approve the use of China’s Sinovac for the elderly.
