“We found evidence that the officials failed to stop the gatherings, which flaunted those health protocols.” Her fellow official, Jakarta Provinciai Administration Personnel head Chaidir was even more scathing.

“Two of the seven officials we questioned, Central Jakarta Mayor Bayu Meghantara and Environment Services head Andono Warih were relieved of their duties,” he said.

“The officials actually helped [the FPI[ by providing them with portable toilets, despite Governor Anies’ orders not to facilitate it in any way.”

The shakeup is the latest to affect Indonesian officials following Rizieq’s return on 10 November. The Indonesian National Police fired Jakarta Metropolitan Police chief Inspector General Nana Sudjana and West Java Regional Police head Rudy Sufahriadi for failing to stop the FPI.
