BATAM, KOMPAS.com -The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency or BMKG issued an early warning of potential high waves and strong winds in the Riau Islands (Kepri) waters.
The agency's official website said that strong winds are expected to occur in the territorial waters of Natuna, Anambas, and the surrounding areas for the next three days.
Forecaster of BMKG in Tanjung Pinang Ardhito warned of waves of four meters in Natuna and Anambas waters.

"These waves may last for three days or even a week," said Ardhito on Wednesday, February 3.
He urged the fishermen and transportation services to be aware, stay alert, and avoid boating in such conditions.
Ardhito also warned of high waves of two meters that have been occurring in Lingga waters in recent days.
"Be aware of waves that could reach 2.5 meters to three meters in the north of Bintan," he said.

However, the Tanjungpinang-Batam waters are relatively safe, he added.
In Batam-Bintan waters, the maximum wave height could be between a meter to 1.3 meters.
BMKG said that wind speeds in Bintan Island and its surroundings could be around 35 to 40 kilometers per hour.
"The wind speed is one of the factors that affect wave height," said Ardito.
