“I believe this close relations is an important asset for Indonesia-Belgium partnership in the future,” he said.
During the 30-minute meeting, Jokowi also discussed issues on strengthening cooperation in the areas of economy and climate change.
In addition, Jokowi also met with his Dutch and Swedish counterparts on the sidelines of the summit.
In his meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Jokowi expressed his appreciation for the presence and support of the Netherlands during the recent Indonesia’s G20 presidency. Jokowi hoped that the ASEAN-EU partnership would be further enhanced following Indonesia’s turn to chair the regional bloc next year.
They also discussed issues on the Indonesia-EU CEPA negotiations, energy transition, investment, and overcoming cross-border crime.
Meanwhile, during the bilateral meeting with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson on Wednesday, the President said that Sweden is one of Indonesia's main economic partners in the Nordic countries, especially in green development.
"I hope this sector will become a priority for cooperation between Indonesia and Sweden in the future," Jokowi said.
The President also said that Indonesia's ASEAN chairmanship next year coincides with Sweden's presidency in the EU in the first half of 2023.
"Let us strengthen the synergy of the ASEAN-EU in promoting equal and mutually beneficial partnership," Jokowi said.
The two leaders also discussed investment, energy transition, and trade cooperation.
Jokowi invited Sweden to participate in the Indo-Pacific Infrastructure Forum in Indonesia next year.
