JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia’s President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has nominated Navy chief of staff Admiral Yudo Margono as the next commander of the Indonesian military (TNI) replacing General Andika Perkasa.
This was revealed by a member of the House of Representatives Commission I TB Hasanuddin, who has the information about the nomination. The House of Representatives, however, have not received a formal letter on the nomination. The letter from the presidential office is expected to arrive only in the afternoon.
“I was informed that the Navy chief of staff has been nominated for the position. Based on the rules, only one name to be appointed,” TB Hasanuddin told reporters at the Parliament Building in Jakarta on Monday, Nov. 28.

Commission I of the House of Representatives chair Meutya Hafid concurred. However, she could not fully confirm the information given.
“I was also informed that Mr. Yudo has been nominated. But, we must wait for the presidential letter,” Meutya said on Monday.
She could not provide further information regarding the schedule for the next fit and proper test at the parliament.
“Hopefully, it will be done this week. We are still waiting for the assignment letter from the House’s Steering Committee [Bamus] to the Commission I,” she said.
General Andika will reach his retirement age on Dec. 21. Therefore, President Jokowi needs to appoint his replacement.
