JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia’s President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo called for collaboration between the Group of 20 major economies to refrain from a new tension or rivalry that disturbs the recovery around the world amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
“In a situation like now, it is not the time for rivalry, it is not the time to create a new tension that disturbs the global recovery and jeopardize the safety of the world as it is happening in Ukraine,” President Jokowi said in his remarks at the opening of a meeting of finance leaders from the G20 nations on Thursday, Feb. 17.
He said that the revival of a region would affect others. On the other hand, once a region collapses, others would follow.
“We must focus on synergy, collaboration to save and revive the world we live in and immediately recover,” the president told the gathering, which some participants attended online.

Jokowi urged the G20 nations to collaborate in various fields. In terms of food security, the collaboration between the world’s top 20 economies should start to control inflation, anticipate food shortages and price hikes, overcome the lack of containers in the supply chain, and prevent hunger.
He also stressed the importance of accelerating the transition to a new economy and digital transformation that are equitable and affordable and providing support for micro, small-medium enterprises.
“This gathering attended by the G20 finance ministers and central bank governors can formulate fiscal and monetary policy measures to solve our common problems,” said Jokowi.
