Four Terror Suspects Arrested in Indonesia’s Lampung

LAMPUNG, KOMPAS.com – Police arrested four alleged Jemaah Islamiyah-linked militants in different areas in Lampung on Indonesia’s Sumatra island, Friday, November 5.

The four people, who have been named as suspects, were arrested in three regencies and two cities in Lampung by policemen from Indonesia’s elite anti-terrorism unit Detachment 88.

“These four suspects and three other previous suspects are from the group Jemaah Islamiyah,” Ramadhan said referring to a network linked to al-Qaeda.

Through WhatsApp messages on Friday afternoon, Ramadhan said the four suspects are identified by initials S (47, F (37), AA (42), and NA (42).

Provide a safe harbor and funds for terrorists

Ramadhan went on to say that S was arrested in Karang Anyar Sub-village in South Lampung. “S, who is one of the suspects, provided a safe harbor for most wanted fugitives with terrorism-related crimes,” he said.

Besides, S also plays a role to recruit new followers in Lampung, said Ramadhan. “This suspect has attended various physical training in Lampung and Java,” he added.

Another suspect F, who was arrested in Purwosari in North Lampung, is the treasurer of the terrorist group in Lampung. “F also knows about various activities, including the safe harbor for the militants in Lampung,” he said.

Meanwhile, AA and NA were arrested in Lampung city and Sidodadi village in East Lampung, respectively.

AA was allegedly involved in various physical training conducted in different areas in Lampung, while NA allegedly helped finance the most wanted fugitives with terrorism-related crimes and members of the militant group who face legal cases.
