State Civil Servants Prohibited from Traveling Out of Town during Religious Holidays

State civil servants are restricted from traveling out of town following the government’s decision to extend micro-scale public activity restrictions (PPKM Mikro) for another two weeks starting March 9 to March 22.

Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto said on Monday that during that period state civil servants, members of the military and police, as well as state-owned enterprises and region-owned enterprises employees are prohibited from traveling out of town due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The policy of restricting state civil servants, members of the military and police, as well as state-owned enterprises and region-owned enterprises employees from traveling out of town is related to the upcoming celebration of Isra' Mi'raj and Nyepi (Day of Silence) from March 10-14,” Airlangga told a virtual press conference on March 8.

The government has added three provinces in the implementation of “PPKM Mikro” namely North Sumatra, East Kalimantan, and South Sulawesi as the Covid-19 confirmed cases surged.

Previously, the “PPKM Mikro” was only applied to all cities in Java and Bali provinces.

Two-Headed Calf Born on Farm in Indonesia's East Java

Villagers flocked to a farm in a village in East Java where a cow gave birth to a calf with two heads, four eyes, and two mouths.

The farm in Probolinggo regency has quickly become the talk of the town as many visitors from neighboring villages wanted to see the rare calf. They took photos and videos of the calf and posted them on social media platforms.

Heri, the owner of the farm, said the calf was born on Saturday evening, March 6. He was shocked by the discovery of the unprecedented birth defect of his cows.

He did not expect that his cow gave birth to a calf with two heads and four eyes. The unusual birth defect that makes the calf suffers is known as bicephaly.

Although it was unusual, the farmer was happy to see the newcomer on his farm. Many villagers came to his house to see the condition of the brown calf.

"I hope that the calf will live longer because it was born with an unusual birth defect. Usually, when it is born in such a condition, it won't last long," Heri said.

Hasan, a resident of Talkandang Village, said that he was surprised because this was the first time he had seen a bicephalic calf.

Leader of the Democratic Party Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) urged the government to reject the results of the Democratic Party’s Extraordinary Congress held recently by the anti-AHY camp in Deli Serdang, North Sumatera.

Democratic Party, one of the opposition parties in Indonesia, faces an internal conflict after the anti-AHY camp appointed Moeldoko, a top aide of Indonesian President Joko Widodo, as the chairman during the extraordinary congress which described as illegal and unconstitutional by some critics.

AHY said that his party had complete and authentic dossiers which showed that the congress was not in line with the party’s rules of association and bylaws (AD/ART).

He also said that the participants were not the party’s cadres who have valid voting rights.
