Indonesia’s Tourism Industry Players Demand Jakarta’s Partial Lockdown Be Lifted

The country’s business community is making the additional effort to not lay off any employees, bear overhead costs and new normal fees, and restructure their finances.

Despite the efforts of businesses in Indonesia, members of the public continue to gather in large crowds during the pandemic and without fines.

“What we see is that there is no sort of action taken. What happens to the business sector is that the authorities seal off the place and disband any crowd activities. This is the problem.”

Hariyadi outlined how despite the weak enforcement of visitor quota and business hours, Indonesia’s industry players try their best to abide by the law and prioritize public health in the new normal.

For Hariyadi, he believes that the business sectors that have made tax contributions to the government should be given leniency to maximize their operations.

For associations on the VIWI Board, he asserts that Indonesia’s industry players will properly apply the 3M health protocols (wearing a mask, washing hands, and social distancing).

Hariyadi is confident that the implementation can be effective if all parties are fully aware of the enforced health protocols and if there is assertiveness from institutions handing out penalties.

“Indonesia’s tourism industry players are ready to follow through on the necessary health protocols. Those of us who operate hotels, restaurants, malls, theme parks, land transportation, airlines, tour services, and travel agencies are prepared.”
