JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Bali is hosting the United Nations-led Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) in 2022.
Indonesian President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo said the GPDRR is a bi-annual event held by the UN to expand knowledge and share latest trends in disaster management.
“193 countries will participate in this UN-led forum reflecting the sheer size of the event in which 5,000 to 7,000 people will be in attendance,” Jokowi told a virtual meeting from the Presidential Palace in Bogor.

Due to the significance and size of the event, Jokowi has spoken to his administration and informed them he expects smooth events-organizing for the upcoming GPDRR in Bali.
One aspect that the Indonesian President is looking to promote through the UN-led event is Indonesia’s tourism.
“Certainly, we cannot forget that the expected arrival of visitors from 190 countries can be used as momentum to promote Indonesia’s tourism sector,” said Jokowi.

Jokowi emphasized that the global scale of GPDRR must be optimized to promote and achieve Indonesia’s national interests while also showcasing the country’s role in disaster risk reduction.
“It is crucial that we prepare for this event well. I am confident of Indonesia’s role as host given that we have previously held several other international conventions,” said the Indonesian President.
