Jakarta Offices with Covid-19 Positive Workers Told to Shut Down for 3 Days

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Jakarta Provincial Administration has ordered employers to shut down their offices for three days if they have workers who test positive for Covid-19.

“The offices have to be temporarily closed for three days. During that time the [office premises] have to be kept clean, hygienic and sterile before it is disinfected,” the head of Jakarta’s Labor, Transmigration and Energy Agency, Andri Yansyah, told Kompas.com.

He added that the offices can then reopen and resume normal activities. Yet it is not exactly business as usual.

“Employees affected by Covid-19, whether they are [Covid-19] positive, under watch or suspected of having the virus must undergo special treatment,” said Andri.

“They should be kept at home for 14 days and barred from entering the office. However, they must not be laid off and must be paid regularly.”

Andri suggested that offices abide by other Covid-19 protocols. “These steps include filling the office at 50 percent capacity to applying three work shifts,” he said. “These steps are applicable to all workplaces, whether they are companies, warehouses or office buildings.”

The first known cluster in Jakarta was reported at Radio Republik Indonesia earlier this week. The state-owned radio station arranged for their employees to work from home for two weeks from July 22 to August 4, after three employees were found to be Covid-19 positive.

Jakarta has reported 18,230 Covid-19 cases as of Saturday, July 25. “755 people or 4.1 percent, have died of Covid-19,” said Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan. “63 percent or 11,552 people have recovered.”

He added that 6,058 others are classified as ‘active’ cases that are under treatment or undergoing self-isolation.
