DENPASAR, KOMPAS.com – Bali police have arrested a 50-year-old US citizen for his role in an alleged investment fraud in his home country.
Beam Marcus, who was arrested on Thursday, July 23 in Badung regency based on an Interpol red notice, fled his country after he allegedly defrauded victims of $500,000.
“He allegedly committed crimes with several victims in Chicago in the US from March 2015 to October 2019,” said Bali Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Petrus Reinhard Golose at the Bali Police Headquarters on Friday, July 24.
Golose said that Marcus was tried and detained in the US from September 4 to September 12, 2019. However, he was released on bail.

Then, on January 10, 2020, when he was scheduled to go to trial, Marcus disappeared and flew to Indonesia’s resort island of Bali, Golose said.
He arrived in Bali at the end of January by using a fake passport. Based on the information given by Interpol, the police are tracking his whereabouts in Bali, the police chief said.
While in Bali, he added, Marcus moved from one place to another six times until he was arrested in Badung on July 23. During the arrest, he was accompanied by a woman identified only by her initial WPC, 48, who is now a witness.
The case will be under the coordination of the National Police’s international relations division and the police attaché in the Indonesian embassy in Washington, DC. The case is handled under good cooperation between the Indonesian National Police and the US Marshals Service (USMS), Golose said.
