Bring Your Own Bag, Jakarta Officially Frowns Upon Plastic Bags

Businesses that are affected by Jakarta’s plastic bag ban does have access to alternative solutions.

Shopping centers, supermarkets, and public markets can offer shopping bags made out of paper, cloth, polyester, or any other forms of recyclable materials.

The Jakarta Governor has emphasized that the city’s plastic bag ban is not meant to burden businesses.

Rather, the ban is enforced to reduce the amount of piled plastic waste that is difficult to recycle.

During the initial phase of the ban, businesses are given the choice to provide or sell eco-friendly shopping bags.
