Pemilu 2024
June 30, 2020, 09.40 PM – Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture continues to make headway in innovation and modernization to improve productivity and achieve food security.

A range of innovative and modernized measures have been taken including creating seeds based on stronger research.

The seeds have been properly measured and are not randomly scattered.

Another innovative approach Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture has accomplished is using agriculture machinery to increase the productivity levels in agriculture.

“We have a tractor that can be used in floating places and in swamps,” said Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo on June 25.

Syahrul mentioned that the ministry has also used satellite images to determine requirements for land.

“With the intervention of modernization and technology from our research, we can measure the quality and quantity we would like to achieve. This is ongoing and we are starting to adjust to it,” said Syahrul.

Technology plays an important role during the coronavirus pandemic to maintain communication and coordination.

Thanks to technology, Indonesia’s Agriculture Minister is able to keep abreast with the latest happenings regarding soil conditions in Indonesia.

The Minister stated that he is able to know what is being done to Indonesia’s soil and how much fertilizer is needed.

Coordination is another integral factor since agricultural activities are mostly field-based.

As such, good coordination and cooperation are important to synergize different parties.

According to Syahrul, all parties must work cohesively be it the central government, ministries, as well as governors and regents.

Coordination is also essential to fulfill activities such as creating good-quality seeds, providing fertilizer, and dealing with pest problems.

Modern agriculture is inevitable

Director-General of Agricultural Infrastructure and Facilities at Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture Sarwo Edhy said that the country’s agriculture sector must shift towards modernization.

Sarwo argues that this is crucial to address sectoral problems, namely increasing productivity and reducing losses.

“Farmers cannot fall behind because the agricultural sector has modernized. Modern agriculture harnesses the use of technology and agricultural machinery,” said Sarwo.

“This can be done by using technology for processing the ground, planting, harvesting, and post-harvesting. This can all be done using machinery to maximize results,” added Sarwo. (
