JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed his gratitude to all the well-wishers on his 59th birthday on June 21.
Jokowi’s birthday also coincided with International Father’s Day 2020.
Taking to his Twitter account, Jokowi posted a photo along with the caption “Thank you for the attention and prayers for me today.”

Indonesian President Jokowi expressed his gratitude that comes with every birthday particularly for his family.
Millions across Indonesia including prominent figures wished Jokowi a happy birthday on social media.
A Twitter hashtag #HBDJokowi59 emerged as the number-one trending topic and is positioned in the top-five ranking on June 22.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan extended his birthday greetings to Jokowi on Twitter.

“To the Indonesian President Mister Jokowi whom I respect, I wish you a happy birthday,” wrote Anies.
Anies Baswedan also wished Indonesian President Jokowi health, happiness, and ease in leading the country.
Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Binsar Panjaitan used Facebook to extend his birthday greetings to Jokowi as well as praising the president.
‘Happy 59th Birthday to President Jokowi. May you remain steadfast in addressing every challenge no matter how small or big. May you remain strong in moving Indonesia forward,” wrote Luhut.

Luhut described Indonesian President Jokowi as a strong character, but a simple person with a high concern for others.
Jokowi was described by Luhut as an individual who has remained the same since the minister first met him 12 years ago.
Luhut also shared Jokowi’s constant reminder to the ‘Indonesia Forward’ administration to always prioritize the people’s interests first in every policy decision-making process.
Other key Indonesian figures who wished Jokowi a happy birthday included Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, President Commissioner of Pertamina Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok), and Senior Investigator at the Corruption Eradication Commission, Novel Baswedan.
Jokowi’s profile
Jokowi was born in Surakarta on June 21, 1961 to mother Sudjiatmi and father Noto Mihardjo.
He is also the eldest of four siblings. Married to First Lady of Indonesia Iriana since 1966, the couple have three children.
They are Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Kahiyang Ayu, and Kaesang Pangarep.
Jokowi was thrust into the limelight upon winning a seat as Jakarta Governor alongside then Vice-Governor of Jakarta, Ahok.
He is currently serving his second term as Indonesian President along with Vice-President Ma’ruf Amin since 2019.
