JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia has administered 15.1 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines as of Sunday, April 11, following the distribution of 24 million doses of vaccines across the country, according to Health Ministry’s website.

Health Ministry spokesperson on Covid-19 affairs Siti Nadia Tarmizi said the figures covered the first and second doses of Covid-19 vaccines given to health workers, public officials, and the elderly with a daily injection capacity of 500,000 doses.

"Indonesia is ranked 8 out of 60 countries that have done the mass vaccination program. This is a great achievement, which is supported by the entire people,” Health Ministry’s official website quoted Nadia on Tuesday, March 13.

However, Nadia said, the vaccination coverage of the elderly is still low, which is only about two million people. The figure is lower than the vaccination coverage of public officers which reached 6.5 million people.

She stressed the importance of accelerating the vaccination coverage among the elderly because this population is at the most risk.

Therefore, she called on the community to help the elderly get vaccinated at the Covid-19 vaccination centers immediately.

"Elderly can get vaccinated anywhere without the need to adjust the ID card or be equipped with a certificate of domicile where the elderly are residing," said Nadia.

Previously, Nadia assured that the supply of coronavirus vaccines is enough to inoculate the target recipients.

“Those who have received the first dose of vaccine in March would receive the same Sinovac vaccine in April,” she said.

So far, she added, Indonesia has received a total of 57 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. All the vaccines in bulk received from China’s Sinovac, have been processed to 47 million doses of ready-to-use vaccine. Of the 47 million doses, 24 million doses of vaccine have been distributed to provinces and districts, or cities.

Indonesia needs to vaccinate at least 70 percent of its population, or 182 million people, to achieve herd immunity against Covid-19.
