April 10, 2023, 04.51 PM – Indonesia officially announced a five-day collective leave for workers from April 19-25 in conjunction with this year’s Idul Fitri celebrations or the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

The decision was made after a joint ministerial decree (SKB) was signed by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Minister of Manpower, and Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform on public holidays and collective leave days in 2023.

"The Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform, Minister of Manpower, and Minister of Religious Affairs have signed the amendment to the joint decree of the Three Ministers on National Holidays and Collective Leave Days in 2023," said the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy on Wednesday, March 29.

Through the decree, the initial collective leave days for the Idul Fitri festival on April 21, 24, 25, and 26 have been changed to April 19, 20, 21, 24 and 25, making it a total of five days instead of four.

"According to the joint ministerial decree on national holidays and collective leave days in 2023, the number of collective leave days has been added one day, which is April 19,” said Muhadjir.

The change aims to give people the opportunity to take time off earlier, avoiding crowd movement during the peak of the homecoming period on April 21.

Based on a survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation, this year the number of people traveling back to their hometowns is about 123 million, which is a drastic increase compared to last year's estimate of about 85 million, according to Muhadjir.

Here is the updated schedule of national holidays and joint leave days for Idul Fitri:

April 22-23: National Holidays for Idul Fitri 1444 H (subject to official government announcement)

April 19, 20, 21, 24, and 25, 2023: Collective leave days for Idul Fitri 1444 H.
