KOMPAS.COM – A Portuguese trekker is reported to have fallen about 150 meters through a slope when taking a selfie at the peak of Mount Rinjani in Indonesia’s West Nusa Tenggara province on Friday, Aug. 19.
“A trekking organizer namely Rudy Trekker has informed that one of his clients from Portugal slipped and fell down the peak of Mount Rinjani at 5:30 local time,” said a statement issued by the Mount Rinjani National Park Agency.
The statement added that the trekker slipped off the northwest slope overlooking Lake Segara Anak. At that time, the trekker was taking a selfie.

The process of evacuation was still carried out in the afternoon.
“A joint evacuation team is on their way,” said the head of the Mount Rinjani National Park Agency Dedy Asriady.
The Mount Rinjani National Park Agency deployed its Search, Rescue, and Evacuation (P2E) Task Force Team to coordinate with the East Lombok Search and Rescue Unit, Mataram Search and Rescue, the Edelweis Medical Health Center Team, and the East Lombok Police Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (Inafis) team.
The evacuation process has been carried out since 10:15 local time by the Edelweis Medical Health Center Team and the Mount Rinjani National Park Agency in Sembalun. They prepared all the equipment needed for the evacuation. They set up a temporary evacuation center at the office of Mount Rinjani National Park Agency in Sembalun.
