JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Car Free Day (CFD) in Jakarta will be back on Sunday, May 22 with a shorter duration from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and no vendors will be allowed to run a business on roads.
The Jakarta Administration first suspended the weekly program in March 2020 to curb the spread of Covid-19. Two months later, the activities resumed. But, it was being put on hold again due to a huge crowd that could be the source of Covid-19 transmission.
As the number of Covid cases continues to decline, the local administration has decided to allow the public to carry out outdoor activities during the CFD with a limiting condition.
“We ensure that street vendors are prohibited from operating in the areas where CFD will take place,” Jakarta Transportation Agency head Syafrin Liputo said in a statement on Friday, May 20.
Besides, members of the public who intend to carry out exercise are required to scan their mobile Covid-19 tracking application PeduliLindungi or to show their second dose of vaccine certificate.
He called on the people to follow health protocols although some restrictions have been lifted.
“Everyone who will carry out their activities in the locations of Car Free Day needs to follow the rules applied for the wellbeing of all,” he said.
“Bring and use masks in the crowd.”
