JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia’s President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo arrived in Washington DC on Tuesday, May 10 at 9:40 p.m. local time or Wednesday, May 11 at 8:40 a.m. Jakarta time to attend the US-ASEAN Special Summit.
After flying for 24 hours from Jakarta via Amsterdam in the Netherlands, the flight GIA-1 of the national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia landed at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.
Present to welcome the arrival of the President and First Lady were Indonesia’s Ambassador to the US Rosan Roeslani and his wife. The President and his entourage then were driven to a hotel, where they would be staying throughout the trip.

Upon arrival at the hotel, the President and First Lady were welcomed by Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.
Accompanying the President were Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, State Secretary Minister Pratikno, Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi, and Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia.
President Jokowi is scheduled to attend a series of meetings from May 11-13 along with other ASEAN leaders.
Besides, the President will also attend a meeting with US Congress, American prominent business leaders, US President Kamala Harris, and members of the US Climate Change Team.
Indonesia, the coordinator of the ASEAN-US partnership for the 2021-2024 period, expressed hope that the US-ASEAN Special Summit will produce good results in maintaining peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

President Jokowi said that with the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific, ASEAN is ready to work closely with all ASEAN dialogue partners, including the United States, in developing concrete cooperation that is inclusive and mutually beneficial.
“We have a responsibility to make the Indo-Pacific a peaceful, stable, and prosperous region,” he said.
Jokowi and his entourage will depart from Washington DC on Friday and they are expected to arrive in Indonesia on Sunday, May 15.
