Indonesia Requires 10-day Quarantine for All Arrivals over Omicron Variant

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – All international arrivals are now required to undergo a 10-day quarantine compared to seven days previously after taking a PCR test for Covid-19 at their entry point in Indonesia due to Omicron variant worries.

The new measure was issued on December 2 by the Covid-19 National Task Force following an addendum to circular No. 23/2021 on health protocols for international travel during the Covid-19 pandemic period.

The measure also aims to prevent the spread of coronavirus, including the new Omicron variant found in several countries.

The addendum is as follows:

1. All international travelers, including Indonesian citizens, are required to take a PCR test for Covid-19 and to undergo a mandatory quarantine period of 10 days.

2. Head of foreign representatives and their families serving in Indonesia can self-quarantine at their respective homes for 10 days.

3. The second PCR test for Covid-19 will be taken by both Indonesian citizens and foreigners on the 9th day of their 10-day quarantine period or the 13th day of their 14-day quarantine period.

The policy takes effect from December 3, 2021, until further notice as it will be evaluated from time to time.

Previously, Indonesia required international travelers to undergo a quarantine period of seven days on November 29.

It was also reported that the government will reimpose alert level 3, the moderate alert in the four-tiered Covid-19 restrictions on public activities, throughout the country.

The implementation of the stricter Covid-19 measures is scheduled to take place from December 24, 2021, to January 2, 2022, to halt coronavirus resurgence during the year-end holiday.

During the Christmas and New Year holidays, various pulling-crowd activities such as fireworks and parades will be banned.

The implementation of Christmas services, tourism activities, and shopping center operations will refer to the Home Affairs Ministry instruction.
