KOMPAS.com – Policemen from Indonesia’s elite anti-terrorism unit Detachment 88 (Densus 88) arrested five alleged Jemaah Islamiyah militants in various regencies in East Java on Tuesday, November 9, a spokesman said.
Senior Commissioner Ahmad Ramadhan told a press conference that the suspects were apprehended in Gresik, Bojonegoro, Kediri, and Sumenep.
The Densus 88 unit arrested a suspected terrorist identified by the initial AS in Gresik. The 44-year suspect was taking his child to school at the time of the arrest. A witness in his housing complex said that AS is a quiet individual but often gives religious sermons.

Another terror suspect, BN (40) was apprehended in Bojonegoro in the early morning. The police said that BN is the owner of a foundation of Islamic propagation and actively teaches Quran recitation. At his house, the Densus 88 confiscated some books containing lessons on jihad.
Meanwhile, two other terror suspects, AN and RH, were arrested in the Kediri regency. The police then confiscated some items, including books and a laptop.
Another terrorist suspect, M Ashari, was apprehended in Sumenep in the afternoon by the police who found bows and arrows at his house.
All suspected terrorists have been taken to the local police station for further investigation.
The arrest in East Java was in connection with last week’s raid in Lampung on Sumatera island, where the Densus 88 unit arrested eight terror suspects in various areas.
