“We know that our country contributes 50 percent of the world’s spices and food ingredients. Indonesian cuisine has the power to be better known in the world as it has about 5,300 local dishes,” Sandiaga said, adding that Indonesia has many opportunities to feature its best representation through culinary.
He hopes that Indonesia’s participation will strengthen its culinary wealth in the world.
Based on data from the 2020-2021 Tourism Outlook, the culinary sub-sector contributed about 40.13 percent or 455.55 trillion rupiahs ($31.8 billion) to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2020. Meanwhile, the culinary sub-sector is projected to provide jobs for 9.4 million people.
