Indonesia's Daily Covid-19 Cases Approach 10,000
Indonesia’s Covid-19 Task Force has announced that the number of daily Covid-19 cases continues to crawl upwards, more than a month after the Eid al-Fitr Islamic holidays on May 13 and 14.
“The number of new Covid-19 cases has reached 9,944 over 24 hours as of June 16. This took the number of coronavirus cases to 1,937,652,” the Task Force said on its website.
They noted that the 9,944 cases are the highest number to be detected in a day, since it reached 10,180 on February 22. “Since then, daily Covid-19 case numbers have declined until the end of May.”
However, the number of cases last February is still lower than during the peak of the Covid-19 crisis last January. The peak of Covid-19 cases in Jakarta came on January 30, which saw 14,518 new cases over 24 hours.
“53,476 Indonesians have died of Covid-19, since the pandemic was detected in March 2020,” the Taskforce noted.
“Another 120,306 others are active cases, while 1,763,870 others recovered from Covid-19.”
The number of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia has fallen between February to May 2021, before it surged following Eid al-Fitr.
