Nearly 142 Million Indonesians to Get Vaccinated in Third Phase

The government has set a target of getting nearly 142 million people of vulnerable groups vaccinated during the third phase of the mass inoculation program, a spokesperson said.

“We plan to vaccinate 141.5 million [during the third phase],” said Health Ministry spokesperson on Covid-19 affairs Siti Nadia Tarmizi on Wednesday, June 9.

The third phase of Covid-19 vaccination will be implemented at the national level in July. Only Jakarta had begun the third phase of the vaccination in May. Nadia, however, did not explain in more detail the number of vulnerable groups in Jakarta who had received the Covid-19 jabs in the third phase.

She said that the vulnerable groups in Jakarta received their Covid-19 jabs at health centers, hospitals, and vaccination centers during the third phase of the vaccination program.

Nadia explained that the government's first phase of the Covid-19 vaccination targeted 1.4 million health workers, the second stage targeted 21.4 million elderly people and 17.4 million public officers.

Indonesian Crude Price Rises to $65.49 per Barrel in May

The average Indonesian Crude Price (ICP) in May rose $3.53 to $65.49 as compared to $61.96 per barrel in the previous month.

The Sumatran Light Crude (SLC) in May also increased by $3.58 to $66.25 per barrel from $62.67 per barrel in April.

A statement from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said on Thursday, June 10 that the increase in the Indonesian crude oil prices was affected by the increase in the main crude oil prices in the international market.

The Indonesian Oil Price team said several factors that influence the increase in the world’s crude oil prices are the easing restrictions to allow economic activity to resume in the US, China, and parts of Europe.

The report from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in May 2021 showed the high demand for oil in 2021 by the US at 5.95 million barrels of oil per day (bopd) or an increase of 6.6 percent compared to 2020. This is caused by the plan to cancel US sanctions on Iran which resulted in the potential cancellation of Iran's crude oil exports.

Another factor is the level of compliance of OPEC+ members on production cut quotas reaching 113 percent.

Meanwhile, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates that US crude oil production this year will fall by 290,000 bopd to 11.02 million bopd.

Referring to EIA weekly stock report, US crude oil stocks fell 800,000 barrels to 484.3 million barrels, US gasoline stocks fell 3.3 million barrels to 232.5 million barrels, and US distillate stocks fell 7.1 million barrels to 129. 1 million barrels.

The Indonesian Oil Price team said that the strengthening of the equity market and the weakening of the US dollar against several currencies - the lowest in the last four months - made investors switch to investing in commodities, including crude oil.

Meanwhile, in the Asia Pacific region, the increase in crude oil prices was also affected by rising oil demand from China toward the end of the maintenance period and solid oil demand from Japan. Also, it was influenced by India's oil demand which remained strong, especially from processing refineries, despite a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases in the country.
