Indonesia’s Port Operator Pelindo III Receives $5 Million Compensation from Container Ship Company
State-controlled port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia III, or Pelindo III has received $5 million compensation it has long awaited from container ship company MV Soul of Luck.
The compensation has finally been paid following a series of the process done by Pelindo III after the container ship crashed into the facilities at the Semarang Container Terminal in Central Java on July 14, 2019.
Pelindo III president director Boy Robyanto said the amount of compensation paid by the MV Soul of Luck was based on a calculation made by the company. The incident had damaged the equipment and facilities at the Semarang Container Terminal in Tanjung Emas Port.
"After going through a series of processes, Pelindo III can obtain what is due to its rights [compensation], to prevent the company from losing," said Boy in a statement Wednesday, April 21.
Previously, MV Soul of Luck experienced engine failure which resulted in the ship crashing into the loading and unloading equipment that belong to Pelindo III at the Semarang Container Terminal in Tanjung Emas Port in April 2019.
