Jakarta-Cikampek II Toll Road Will be Renamed Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince MBZ

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia’s longest elevated toll road, Jakarta-Cikampek II, will be renamed in honor of the contribution of Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed (MBZ).

The renaming ceremony is scheduled to be led by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday, April 12.

“A temporary closure will be done in part of the toll road at 10A Cikunir Junction from the direction of Jakarta heading to Cikampek on Monday, April 12 from 5 am to 10 am local time,” said a statement issued by the Public Works and Housing Ministry on Sunday, April 11.

The Jakarta-Cikampek II toll road project worth 16.2 trillion rupiahs ($1.1 billion) was previously inaugurated by the President in December 2019 in a bid to reduce congestion in the country’s busiest toll road.

A photo of the new road sign of the 36.4-kilometer toll road went viral on social media recently.

Indonesia’s state-owned toll road operator Jasa Marga president director, Subakti Syukur, confirmed that an official request to rename the toll road was made by the Presidential Secretariat.

“Yes, the request has been made by the Presidential Secretariat,” Subakti told Kompas.com on Saturday, April 10.

Based on this official request, he added, Jasa Marga as the toll road operator, stands ready to implement the instruction given.

MBZ is the chairman of the steering committee of Indonesia’s planned new capital city. Other names in the steering committee also include Japanese billionaire Masayoshi Son and former UK prime minister Tony Blair. The three leaders play a significant role in providing advice and building confidence in global investment.

MBZ also donated a mosque worth $20 million in Jokowi’s hometown in Solo, Central Java. The construction of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was marked by a groundbreaking ceremony on March 6, 2021.

Besides, it was also reported that MBZ has disbursed investment funds of $10 billion to the newly-established Indonesian Investment Authority (INA) to fund infrastructure projects.
