Basarnas also decided to extend the search for Sriwijaya Air Flight SJ 182.
“We will expand the search [for Flight SJ 182] from the Thousand Islands’ Laki and Lancang Islands to Kait Point near Tangerang, Banten Province,” said Basarnas official Air Force Commodore Rasman.
“We will also extend air surveillance the [Air Force] and the police to altitudes of 1 thousand feet to 1500 feet, respectively. We decided to take this step because winds recently shifting from the west to the south can wash up flight debris there.”
He added that sonar from Indonesian Navy ships will be used in the search. Of the 62 people on board the Sriwijaya Air Boeing 737-500, 56 were passengers while six were crew members.
