JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia’s President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo took to Twitter to reaffirm his infrastructure program on Friday.
“In 2021 we will continue to implement the infrastructure development and build the human resources as planned,” said the President in the @jokowi Twitter handle on January 1.
The infrastructure projects will cover the development of dams, irrigation networks, roads, railways, airports, and vertical housing across Indonesia.
“We will disburse a significant amount of budget,” he said.
It was previously reported that the government has allocated a budget of 414 trillion rupiahs ($29.1 billion) for infrastructure development in 2021. This will be used mainly for economic recovery, basic services, and connectivity.
Besides, he added, the government will also focus on the Covid-19 mass inoculation program this year. Jokowi said that the government has secured the supply of vaccines from Sinovac, Novavax, AstraZeneca, and BioNTech-Pfizer.
The procurement of the vaccines is the result of cooperation between Indonesia and various countries.
He went on to say that the government will also continue its social protection programs, such as providing staple food, cash social assistance, pre-employment cards, and others.
Jokowi called on the people to welcome the New Year with enthusiasm and hope.
“We enter the year 2021 with confidence. We have learned valuable lessons, we have sacrificed a lot during the pandemic, which makes us better prepared,” he said.
