JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia’s Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita has reaffirmed that a delegation from Tesla is scheduled to visit Indonesia in January next year.
“Tesla will send its team to Indonesia early January to follow up on President’s previous discussion with Tesla CEO Elon Musk,” Agus said during a year-end press conference held virtually on Monday, December 28.
Tesla will further discuss the investment in the electric vehicle industry in Indonesia, Agus said, adding that the government has invited Tesla to invest in the country.
“It’s a good start. Tesla will send its delegation to further discuss the investment plan. We will make use of the opportunity to meet with the team from Tesla and to convince them to invest in Indonesia.”
Agus said that global investors have expressed their interest in investing in Indonesia because of its large population. Besides, the ratio of car ownership in Indonesia is relatively low compared to other neighboring countries.
So, hopefully, it will attract foreign companies to invest in the country, he said.

“We will try to attract Tesla to invest in Indonesia,” he said.
It was previously reported that the Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the company would send its delegation to Indonesia as they have expressed interest to invest in the country.
However, Luhut said, the details are still unclear. Tesla is likely to invest in the main component of electric vehicles, which is the battery.
