Indonesia Highlights: Cleric Named Suspect in Holding Mass Gathering amid Pandemic | Healthcare Workers in Java, Bali First to Get Covid-19 Vaccine | Over 6,000 New Covid-19 Cases

December 11, 2020, 12.27 AM

JAKARTA, – Controversial Indonesian cleric Rizieq Shihab has been getting extensive media mileage since his return from a three-year exile in Saudi Arabia last month. And that attention isn't about to wane soon. Rizieq, leader of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), was named a suspect along with five of his followers in an investigation into a mass gathering that breached the Covid-19 health protocols recently.

Elsewhere, the Ministry of Health said that healthcare workers and assistants of healthcare workers who work at the healthcare facilities in the Java and Bali regions will be the first group to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

This was revealed after President Joko Widodo announced the arrival of the first shipment of 1.2 million coronavirus vaccines from China-based pharmaceutical firm Sinovac Biotech Ltd recently last Sunday.
