JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia’s President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has strongly condemned the terrorist attack and killing in Sigi, Central Sulawesi, saying the terror aims to destroy the nation’s unity.

Jokowi regarded the attack that killed four people and burned downed seven houses last Friday as inhumane.

The President said that there is no room for terrorists in the country. “This barbaric act is clearly aimed at creating provocation and terror among people who want to destroy the unity and harmony in this nation,” Jokowi said in a televised message from the presidential palace in the capital, Jakarta on Monday, November 30.

The President has instructed National Police Chief General Idham Azis to investigate thoroughly the terrorism down to its roots.

The witnesses also said that the suspected attackers were members of East Indonesia Mujahidin (MIT), based on the most-wanted persons’ photograph the police shown to them.
A spokesperson for the National Police, Brigadier General Awi Setiyono, said the security authorities hunted down the members of the MIT terror group which is led by Ali Kalora.
