Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta, Indonesia to Allow 7,000 Daily Visitors

November 15, 2020, 09.23 PM

KOMPAS.com – The number of visitors allowed to enter the Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta, Indonesia is expected to be increased to 7,000 per day.

The company managing one of the most famous temples in Yogyakarta, Taman WIsata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan, and Ratu Boko, hopes their plan will be approved in anticipation of the upcoming Christmas and New Year 2021 holidays.

“Thus far, we have only done trials for the New Normal Adaptation Phase 3 for up to 5,000 visitors per day,” said Edy Setijono, CEO of Taman WIsata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan, and Ratu Boko.

“For Phase 4 which is during the festive and new year holidays, we are aiming to increase the quota to up 5,000 visitors per day.”

Based on Edy’s assessment, the gradual increase in the number of daily visitors adhering to Covid-19 health protocols during their visit to Prambanan Temple has gone smoothly in the new normal era.

This Yogyakarta temple first only allowed up to 1,500 visitors to enter, but continually boosted the daily visitors permitted to 2,500 and up to the current quota of 5,000 visitors.

“The result of the evaluation for Phase 1 to Phase 3 indicates that everything happened without a glitch. As such, we are looking forward to seeing the result of Phase 4 when the number will increase to 7,000 daily visitors.”

Edy said that his company is coordinating and consulting with the Yogyakarta Covid-19 Mitigation Agency regarding its Phase 4 plans.

“During each phase, the agency oversees our measures and so far, we have been given good scores that have allowed us to receive approval to continually increase the number of visitors to Prambanan Temple.”

The tentative new quota of 7,000 people is around 60 percent of the average number of visitors that came to the Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta pre-pandemic.

“This is why we have to do it in phases because our priority is to adhere to Covid-19 health protocols and in properly implementing it.”

“We want to present a travel destination that is safe and healthy, but without making it uncomfortable for tourists.”

Edy asserted that the focus is on the health protocols particularly by providing training to staff members for the proper adoption of the procedures.

“The way we handle 7,000 people will be different than if there were 1,500 or 2,500. The condition will also be different thus this is something we will have to continue evaluating.”

Edy has asked all visitors coming to the Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta to abide by standard health protocols such as wearing a three-layer face mask.

“Wearing a face mask properly is the easiest way to prevent Covid-19 transmission. Using a mask reduces our risk of virus transmission by nearly 80 percent under the condition that it is three-layer and worn properly.”
