JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Jakarta Provincial Administration has decided to extend transitory Large-Scale Social Distancing (PSBB) for another two weeks to November 22.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the transitory PSBB, which began on October 24, will be extended after officials claimed that they managed to slow down the rate of Covid-19 transmission in the capital over the past two weeks.

“The rate of Covid-19 transmissions in Jakarta fell from 12,481 cases during the PSBB period from October 10–24 to 8,026 between October 24 and November 8,” he said in a written statement on November 8.

“This is a 55 percent reduction [in Covid-19 cases], while the percentage of recoveries increased by 90.7 percent to 101,791 out of 112,027 cases in Jakarta as of November 7.”

But the Gerindra Party politician warned Jakartans against complacency. “Transitory PSBB is still needed because Covid-19 transmission still occurs. The measure is also needed to make the public maintain health protocols like washing hands, wearing masks, and social distancing.”

Officials in Jakarta said there are an estimated 7,870 active Covid-19 cases in the capital, while 2,366 people died in the pandemic. The authorities also carried out PCR tests on 57,754 people in Jakarta. The tests have a 9.4 percent positive rate.
