KOMPAS.com – Lombok, Indonesia has become a popular tourist destination in Indonesia and there are plenty of places to visit outside of the Gili Islands.

Fun activities in Lombok vary from visiting beaches to climbing mountains, thus it is not surprising it has become a dream travel destination for many tourists.

Kompas.com has selected the top 25 places to visit in Lombok if you are planning to visit the area.

1. Pink Beach

Pink Beach is one of the more popular beaches in the area offering breathtaking views and pink sand. Lombok’s Pink Beach has crystal clear water and a beautiful view in the depths of the water making it ideal for snorkeling and diving.

To make it easier for tourists, you can also rent the equipment there. Due to its calm waves, Pink Beach is ideal for swimmers and families with children.

Local tourists are subject to a IDR 10,000 fee per person, foreigners pay IDR 50,000 per person, local students pay IDR 5,000 per person, and a group of overseas students pay IDR 25,000 per person.

2. Senggigi Beach

Another popular beach in the area is Senggigi Beach which is situated in Jalan Raya Senggigi, Batu Layar, West Lombok Regency.

Senggigi Beach has crystal blue waters ideal for snorkelers seeking stunning underwater views. With calm waves, the beach is suitable for first-time surfers.

If you are looking to enjoy the sights and sounds of Senggigi Beach, you only need to pay a fee of IDR 15,000 per person.

3. Tanjung Aan Beach

Tanjung Aan Beach is a renowned beach in Lombok that has managed to maintain its pristine condition mainly due to the limited facilities available around the location.

Tanjung Aan Beach directly faces the Indian Ocean with a shoreline of over 2 kilometers and is surrounded by the Merese Hill.

The beach is located in Sengkol, Kuta, Pujut, Central Lombok Reggency and offers two types of sand: soft and textured. Because the waves are relatively calm, visitors can enjoy swimming, snorkeling, or surfing here.

Tanjung Aan Beach is not far from the Lombok Airport and is accessible by car or motorcycle, and takes around 30 minutes to reach. Parking at the beach costs IDR 5,000 for motorcycles and IDR 10,000 for cars.

4. Merese Hill

Merese Hill surrounds Tanjung Aan Beach and is located in Jalan Kuta Lombok, Kuta Pujut, Central Lombok Regency.

It is one of the trendiest destinations in Lombok where visitors can enjoy sweeping views of the ocean and sky as well as beautiful sunset views.

Merese Hill is a very ‘Instagrammable’ spot that is frequently used for pre-wedding photoshoots. There is no entrance fee and can be accessed on foot from Tanjung Aan Beach.

5. Umbrella Rock

Umbrella Rock is a large standing rock that naturally formed its shape and beauty and is a unique place to visit in Lombok. 

No matter the angle, the rock is all-around enjoyable to view and as such makes it another ‘Instagrammable’ spot. Located east of Tanjung Aan Beach, visitors can hire a boat from the beach for IDR 250,000 to reach Umbrella Rock.

6. Malimbu Beach

One of the places to visit in Lombok is Malimbu Beach that is extremely pristine and rarely visited. This beauty is located in Malaka Village in North Lombok Regency.

One of the factors that attract tourists to Malimbu Beach is its spectacular coral reefs dubbed Malimbu Coral Reefs that has become a common photography location.

There is no entrance fee and visitors can choose from walking around the soft sand or renting a canoe or boat to explore the surrounding waters.

7. Malimbu Hill

One of the favorite activities to do while in Lombok is to watch the sunset, and it is possible to do so when you visit Malimbu Hill.

The destination has two points that offer great sights on the east and west namely, Malimbu Beach.

From Malimbu Hill, visitors are able to see Agung Mountain in Bali, Gili Trawangan Islands, Gili Air, and Gili Meno from afar.

Traditional shacks offer food, drinks, and souvenirs for sale. No entrance fee, and you can visit 24 hours a day.

8. Kuta Mandalika Beach

Kuta Mandalika Beach is a go-to destination for water sports lovers particularly for surfers, snorkelers, and divers.

Equipped with complete facilities such as a parking area, toilet, food stalls, ATM, prayer room, hotels, and water sports equipment-for-rent, Kuta Mandalika Beach has visitors covered.

The destination is easily reachable from the airport by car or motorcycle within 30 minutes and while there is no entrance fee, a parking tariff applies for motorcycles (IDR 5,000) and cars (IDR 10,000).

9. Ampenan Beach

Located in Pabean Road, Ampenan, Mataram City, Ampenan Beach is a recommended place to visit in Lombok if you are coming here with friends.

Vendors sell various food and beverage options which you can enjoy while watching the sunset. Ampenan Beach is close to the city and you only need to pay a parking fee of IDR 2,000 for motorcycles and IDR 5,000 for cars.

10. Islamic Center Mataram

The Islamic Center Mataram is one of the iconic places in the Lombok Islands that religious followers must visit if they are in the area.

The 74,748 square-meter Islamic Center Mataram is situated in Udayana Road, Gomong, Selaparang, Mataram City.

The Hubbul Wathan Mosque is another name of this destination that is a grand and beautiful building. To go to the top of the tower to view the skyline of Mataram, you only need to pay IDR 5,000 per person.

11. Meru Temple

Built in 1720, Meru Temple is one of the oldest and biggest temples in Lombok.

The temple is sacred to locals and it is a symbol of pride for the people of Lombok thus making it an ideal place to visit for history and religious travels. A parking area, food and drink vendors, ATM, and souvenir shops are found around the Meru Temple.

Visitors are recommended to give a voluntary donation when the temple opens from 8am until 6pm Central Indonesia time.

12. Mayura Park

Mayura Park is nature’s paradise that is also suitable for religious travels where a park and temple are found in the vicinity. The park is surrounded by Manggis trees and luscious green grass complete with a swimming pool at the center of the location.

History buffs will enjoy visiting the area while basking in the serenity and breeze. A fee of IDR 2,500 per person applies and Mayura Park opens from 8am to 5pm.

13. Gili Nanggu

No trip to Lombok is complete without a visit to one of the Gili Islands and Gili Nanggu is a favorite among tourists.

Colorful coral reefs and small fish complement its underwater views, making it a favorite among snorkelers and divers. Visitors who prefer to stay land-side can opt for a leisure walk on the soft white sand covering the island.

Gili Nanggu is in West Sekotang, West Lombok, and can be reached by boat at the port crossing situated in Tawun Village. You can rent a boat with a maximum capacity of 10 people for around IDR 300,000. The fee includes tickets to enter Gili Sudak and Gili Kedis.

14. Gili Sudak

Gili Sudak is one of the less-visited islands hence it remains in pristine condition while accentuated with white sand, stunning large coral reefs, and clear blue water.

With a gorgeous underwater view, visitors regularly opt for snorkeling though canoeing and eating seafood by the beach are other options. Due to the panoramic sunset and sunrise views, the tiny island is often considered a romantic spot.

To reach Gili Sudak, visitors can rent a boat from Tawun Port for IDR 300,000 which is inclusive of an entrance ticket to Gili Nanggu and Gili Kedis.

15. Gili Kedis

Gili Kedis has not become a popular place to visit in Lombok and is rarely visited, and its small size is the reason locals also refer to it as ‘Sparrow Island’.

Visitors can enjoy the calm water, white sand, and gorgeous coral reefs as they snorkel. You can rent a boat from Tawun Port for IDR 300,000 to reach the island which is inclusive of entrance to Gili Nanggu and Gili Sudak.

16. Sesaot Nature Park

Sesaot Nature Park is also called as ‘Aik Nyet Park’ comprising of a forest and a clean river.

Visitors with families can enjoy picnicking here as there are gazebos all around the destination. The landscape of the Sesaot Nature Park makes it an ideal spot for photos and do not worry about your religious duties as the location offers a prayer room.

Entry to the park costs IDR 5,000 and includes a parking fee from morning to late afternoon.

17. Cliffs Beach

Cliffs Beach is one of the hidden beaches in Lombok and unlike other beaches, it has black sand. The main attraction of the place is the tall cliffs that reach 22 meters long and surrounds the entire beach.

Visitors can swim, sunbathe, surf, and take photos at Cliffs Beach after paying an entrance fee of IDR 6,00 per person.

18. Sendang Gile Waterfall

Luscious green landscapes and cool air are all part of the Sendang Gile Waterfall experience. With a height of 30 meters, the clear water is refreshing to the skin. To enter, visitors pay IDR 5,000 per person and you can then enjoy the beauty and serenity of Sendang Gile Waterfall.

19. Tiu Kelep Waterfall

Tiu Kelep Waterfall is an exotic destination often considered the most romantic waterfall spot in the island thus making it great for couples. The waterfall sits on the foothills of Rinjani Mountain where visitors can take in the sights and sounds and on occasion, a rainbow.

To enter, visitors pay a fee of IDR 10,000 per person.

20. Senaru Coffee Plantation

The destination features a shack called the ‘Coffee Plantation’ selling various types of coffee-based drinks as well as food that visitors can enjoy while taking in the views. There is no entrance fee, but a parking fee of IDR 5,000 applies.

21. Mawun Beach

Mawun Beach is complete with soft sand, blue waters, and green hills that have made it an increasingly popular spot for tourists.

Facilities at Mawun Beach include a prayer room, toilet, gazebo, mini bar, and food stalls. The calm waves make it great for swimming and for a bit of thrill, you can surf near the edge of the hills where the waves are bigger.

A parking fee of IDR 5,000 for motorcycles and IDR 10,000 for cars apply.

22. Seger Beach

There are two sides of Seger Beach: inside and outside, but both offer the same level of natural beauty where hills and sand surround the area.

Among the facilities around Seger Beach includes a parking area, hotels, toilets, changing room, and food stalls. A parking fee of IDR 5,000 for motorcycles and IDR 10,000 for cars apply.

23. Pergasingan Hill

Situated near Rinjani Mountain, Pergasingan Hill has a height of 1,670 mdpl which enables visitors to see paddy fields and Rinjani itself.

There is a spot on Pergasingan Hill for parasailing that has helped boost its name among extreme sports junkies. An entrance fee of IDR 10,000 per person applies.

24. Tanjung Ringgit

Tanjung Ringgit is considered one of the most beautiful places to visit in Lombok. It is part of an eco-region and leaves behind a historical legacy from the Japanese Occupation.

While there is not much to do at this place, visitors can go camping to watch the sunrise or snap a few photos of this idyllic spot.

There is no entrance fee that applies, but visitors are required to maintain their personal safety and respect the natural balance of the Tanjung Ringgit.

25. Segara Anak Lake

Segara Anak Lake has a depth of 230 meters and is part of the Rinjani Mountain National Park in North Lombok. Although the lake stands at quite a height from the ground, visitors can go fishing, swimming, or soak in the hot water.

An entrance fee of IDR 35,000 per person applies.
