KOMPAS.com – Alibaba Cloud is expanding in Indonesia with a plan to build its third data center here by 2021.
Unlike the previous two data centers, its third facility will also serve as Indonesia’s first data scrubbing center.
Alibaba Cloud established its first and second data centers in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

The existing data centers have received a security and licensing certificate including Information Privacy ISO 27001.
The upcoming data Alibaba Cloud data center will include features for database, computing, network, and data analytics.
“We will open Indonesia’s first data scrubbing center to detect, analyze, and erase suspicious traffic to prevent a Denial-of-Service attach particularly for our customers in the finance and gaming sectors,” said Leon Chen as Country Manager at Alibaba Cloud Indonesia on July 2.
For the project, the company is investing an additional $28 billion or around Rp 403.6 trillion for the next three years.
The investment will be used to develop a new generation data center infrastructure in Indonesia.

“The investment will be used to develop core technology such as a cloud operating system and network,” said Leon.
Indonesian Minister of Communications and Informatics Johnny Plate welcomed Alibaba Cloud’s data center plan.
“Alibaba Cloud’s initiative can play a part in the acceleration of Indonesia’s digital transformation.”

The Communications and Informatics Minister shared his views on the need for industry players to prioritize the principle of fairness in data management.
Johnny also hopes that the data management process will be more transparent.
Since Alibaba Cloud started operating its data centers, it has worked with a bluechip client list from Indonesia.

Among them are Adira Finance, Astra Financial, Indonet, Amar Bank, and Tokopedia.
The company operates 63 availability zones in 21 regions across the world to support businesses in over 200 countries and territories.
Up in Google Cloud
Google is another tech giant that has established a cloud market in Indonesia.
On June 24, Google officially opened its Google Cloud Platform region in Jakarta, making it the first of its kind in the country. Jakarta is Google’s ninth cloud region to start operation.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai explained that the ninth Google Cloud is part of the company’s efforts to further advance Indonesia's digital transformation process.

Minister Johnny Plate said that the presence of Google Cloud in Indonesia is important for the development of digital technology and data security.
The Minister is confident that the Google Cloud region Jakarta will strengthen security and data privacy while moving Indonesia’s digital economy forward.
