Indonesian Covid-19 Patient Recovers after 22 Swab Tests in Three Months

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Three months and 22 swab tests after, a Covid-19 patient on Indonesia's Java island has recovered, said a government official on Wednesday, June 24.

Ponorogo Regent Ipong Muchlissoni said the 39-year-old woman had been treated in an isolation room for three months.

Ipong said there are lessons that the residents of Ponorogo in East Java Province should take away from the patient's story. He called on the residents to comply with health protocols issued by the government to prevent the coronavirus from spreading.

“Imagine if you were to take a swab test for 22 times and were being treated for months in the hospital,” Ipong told Kompas.com on Wednesday, June 24.

Another Covid-19 patient aged 14 was declared free of the virus after being treated in the isolation room for two months. Earlier, the child had undergone swab tests for 12 times.

He added that a patient with Covid-19 could not meet their family.

The regent said getting the swab test is not only painful but it will also affect the patient’s psychology as repeated tests came back positive. A patient with Covid-19 requires two negative results from swab tests before the health authorities declare that the patient is clear from the coronavirus.

To date, 25 patients have recovered from Covid-19 in Ponorogo, while 11 others have undergone self-isolation at home.
