Foreign Tourist Reservations in Indonesia Hotels Reach 54 Percent

KOMPAS.com - More than half of hotel reservations in Indonesia come from foreign tourists, according to data released by Little Hotelier, a hotel management software provider for small accommodations, in February.

Little Hotelier's Regional Sales Manager in Indonesia Tander Lowongan said that in that month, foreign tourists who booked through online travel agents (OTAs) reached 54 percent.

"International tourists reached 54 percent, while domestic travelers reached 45 percent. It's almost balanced between domestic and international travelers. However, currently, there are more international travelers than before," Tander told a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 14.

This analysis is based on 100 million bookings made by the hotel management software. The data was processed in 2022 by SiteMinder, a hotel trading platform that supports Little Hotelier for its global customers.

Increase in hotel reservations

According to Tander, based on this data, the number of hotel reservations in Indonesia as of January 2023 has also exceeded the figure in 2019.

"This data has been updated until January 2023, with global growth of 105 percent. In Indonesia alone, there is a growth of 119 percent," he said.

He went on to say that these figures increased significantly compared to two years ago when the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world, causing a drop in the number of hotel bookings.
"Eventually, at the beginning of January, we had a drastic growth and it also exceeded that of 2019," he said.

Furthermore, this finding also includes the top 12 distribution channels that generated the highest revenue from accommodation bookings in Indonesia last year.

"These are the top 12 multi-channel or distribution channels with the highest revenue in Indonesia. The first rank is Booking.com," Tander said.

Of the top 12 Online Travel Agents (OTA), three of them are local OTAs, namely Traveloka, tiket.com, and Pegipegi, he said.

Previously, Traveloka topped the list of the top 12 in Indonesia in 2021, he added. In 2022, this Jakarta-based OTA moved to fourth place. "This is because almost half of all hotel check-ins throughout the year come from international tourists," Tander explained.
