Chinese National Who Allegedly Runs Illegal Online Lending Companies Arrested in Indonesian Airport

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) arrested a Chinese national who masterminds savings and loans cooperative (KSP) Inovasi Milik Bersama which runs several illegal online lending companies.

“A foreigner suspected of masterminding illegal online lending company and identified by multiple initials WJS or BH or JN has been arrested,” said director of the special economic crime of the Criminal Investigation Police Brigadier General Helmy Santika on Tuesday, November 9.

Helmy said that WJS serves as the business director and the owner of the aforementioned savings and loans cooperative.

WJS, who lives in a North Jakarta apartment, was arrested in the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang near Jakarta as he departed for Turkey. “The suspect was arrested in the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport as he was about to leave for Turkey with his two other colleagues,” said Helmy.

The savings and loans cooperative (KSP) Inovasi Milik Bersama, which is owned by WJS, usually recruits people to be part of the business. They also look for other illegal digital moneylenders to be their partners, the police said.
