JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Ambalat XXVIII Task Force of the Indonesian Marine Corps arrested six people, including three foreigners, on suspicion of being involved in espionage activities in North Sebatik, Nunukan regency, North Kalimantan on Wednesday, July 20.
The three foreigners are identified by the initials LS aged 40; HK, 40; and BJ, 45. Meanwhile, the locals are identified by the initials EW, 23; TR, 40; YY, 40.
An officer at the Sei Pancang Post 1st Lt. (Mar) Victor Aji Hersanto said the arrest of the six people began when one of the guards Lance Corporal (Mar) Moch Arif saw a black multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) passing the Post.

The guard stopped the car and inspected the driver, passengers, and their documents. But, no belongings were found in the vehicle.
After it was discovered that there were foreigners, everyone was then asked to get out of the car for further checks at the post.
“Photos of check posts, border markers, cross-border posts are found in their cellular phones and they were taken secretly,” Hersanto said in a statement on Thursday, July 21.
Following the inspection, Hersanto reported the matter to the head of the task force Captain (Mar) Andreas Parsaulian Manalu. They also coordinated with other relevant authorities, including the immigration office.
Taking photos illegally could be charged with the Electronic Information and Transactions, or ITE Law No. 19/2016 on the Amendment to Law No. 11/2008 on ITE.
“Subsequently, the six people have been handed over to the Sebatik Immigration office for further process by sending them to the detention center in the Nunukan Immigration office,” said Andreas.
