JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia’s President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo called on all parties to remain vigilant as the current global economic and political turmoil poses threats to food and energy security.
“All countries are facing threats to food and energy security,” said President Jokowi when receiving the 2021 Central Government Financial Report (LHP LKPP) at the Bogor Presidential Palace near Jakarta on Thursday, June 23.
Jokowi said it is important to be vigilant because the challenges would not be easy and full of uncertainty.
“The current and future challenges would not be easy since we were still in an uncertain situation, requiring us to remain vigilant,” he said.

He went on to add that the uncertainty stems from the current volatile global economic and political situation. While the world is still struggling to overcome the impact of the Covid-19 in the last two years, a conflict between Russia and Ukraine has disrupted the supply chain in the global economy.
Some developed and developing countries experience high inflation rates, forcing the central banks to tighten liquidity by raising the rates.
“The impact affects all, including the impact on the economy, and trigger an increase in inflation globally,” said Jokowi.
He stressed the need of a common understanding among all parties, including the central government, heads of institutions, and local governments.
“This situation must become our common understanding so that we have the same feelings to prepare the right response and policies at all levels of state institutions,” the President said.
