KOMPAS.com – Indonesia’s Senior Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan met with Tesla Inc Chief Executive Elon Musk in Austin, Texas, discussing the company’s investment in electric vehicle (EV) and battery industry plans.
During the meeting, Musk also invited President Joko Widodo to visit his rocket company SpaceX in Texas and touched on the issue of Starlink satellite broadband service.
“The visit will depend on the availability and schedule of the President,” Luhut’s spokesman Jodi Mahardi told Kompas.com on Tuesday, April 26.
Indonesia, world’s biggest nickel producer, had received an investment proposal from the US electric carmaker.

Two years earlier, officials from the Indonesian government and Tesla representatives had already discussed the plans, but the negotiations failed as the discussions did not meet Indonesia’s expectations.
Luhut said last month that he received a call from Tesla. However, Luhut told Tesla not telling what Indonesia should do if they are still interested in their investment plans. The government also did not prohibit the company representatives from coming to Indonesia.
Accompanying Luhut were Indonesia’s Ambassador to the US Roesan Roeslani, and Chief Advisor of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Anindya Bakrie, who is also President Director of PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk.
In his Twitter account, Anindya said that Elon Musk was invited to attend the International Advisory Caucus B20 as part of the G20 meetings in Indonesia, where the country serves as the chairman this year.
