KOMPAS.com – Visa on arrival for tourism is now available to foreign tourists from 23 countries who will enter Indonesia via Bali checkpoints starting from March 7.

The decision was taken to promote the country’s economy that has been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic and in consideration of the decline of coronavirus infections.

A statement from the Law and Human Rights Ministry’s Immigration Directorate General said that currently, the visa on arrival program -- which is valid for 30 days and can be extended to one time only -- will only be issued upon arrival at the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali.

“However, the holders of visas on arrival for tourism can leave the territory of Indonesia from any checkpoints, not only from Bali,” said Achmad Nur Saleh, a spokesperson for the Immigration Directorate General over the weekend.

He went on to add that upon arrival foreign tourists are required to provide their six-month passport rule, proof of a return ticket or onward tickets to another country, and other documents that follow the health protocols set by the Covid-19 Task Force.

“Violations against the use of tourist visas will be subject to immigration sanctions. Besides, if they are proven to have violated the health protocols and public order, they will also be subject to sanctions under the laws and regulations,” said Achmad.

The non-tax revenue (PNBP) tariff for the visa on arrival for tourism costs 500,000 Indonesian rupiahs ($35).
