Indonesia to Get 77.5 Million More Doses of Covid Vaccine This Month

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia is scheduled to receive 77.5 million more doses of Covid-19 vaccines this month, said a senior minister on Monday, August 9.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that the government will distribute these vaccines to 45 regencies and cities in areas affected by the Covid-19 level 4 restrictions on public activities outside Java and Bali region.

“We expect to receive the shipments of 72 million doses and 5.5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines this August and the Health Ministry has prepared its distribution to all provinces, regencies, and cities,” Airlangga told a press conference on Monday, August 9.

He said that the government is scheduled to distribute the vaccines in four batches to 45 regencies and four regions in Papua. The first batch of shipments comprising 10.6 million doses of vaccines has been scheduled for delivery on August 9-10, while the second shipment comprising six million doses will be distributed on August 12.

“The distribution of 5.6 million doses of Sinovac and AstraZeneca will be done on August 16-17 followed by another shipment of 34 million doses in the third week of August,” he added.

The government, he added, has accelerated the process of vaccination programs by increasing the target number of daily Covid-19 jabs. The Indonesian military (TNI) is expected to administer as many as 500,000 Covid shots in a day, the Police 600,000 shots, the regional governments 1.2 million shots, and the remaining will be done by the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN).

“The local governments should not stockpile the vaccines and the second dose of vaccine must immediately be provided,” said Airlangga, who also leads the national economic recovery and Covid-19 response team.
