JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesia's President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo took to social media expressing his appreciation and gratitude to all healthcare workers and volunteers for their hard work in the fight against Covid-19 in the country.
“They work hard in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic,” Jokowi wrote in his Instagram account and the @jokowi Twitter handle on Friday, July 9.

"Thank you to the healthcare workers and volunteers who work night and day, struggling and working hard during the Covid-19 pandemic," Jokowi added.
The president also urged people to lessen the medical personnel’s burden by implementing Covid-19 health protocols in a bid to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
"We can help them by wearing masks, keeping our distance, and staying away from crowds," the President wrote.

Indonesia recorded a significant increase in Covid-19 cases recently. The latest data showed that 38,391 new cases were recorded in only 24 hours, a new high in the daily number of Covid-19 cases and bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 2,417,788 since the first two cases were announced in March last year.

As of July 8, the total number of recoveries reached 1,994,573 after 21,185 people were healed. However, the coronavirus death toll reached 852, bringing the total number of deaths to 63,760.
As of July 9, 2021, the number of healthcare workers who died from the Covid-19 reached 1,133 comprising 434 doctors, 367 nurses, 167 midwives, 46 dentists, 32 medical laboratory technology experts, 10 pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
