A Body of Covid-19 Patient Wrapped in Tarp in Eastern Indonesia, Video Goes Viral
A video showing a body of a Covid-19 patient wrapping in a tarpaulin in Indonesia's Ende regency in East Nusa Tenggara went viral on social media.
The video showed two people wearing hazmat suits and a woman without a hazmat suit carrying the body of the dead patient to a burial site.
The provincial government of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) urged officials at the Ende administration to immediately equip all public health centers with adequate facilities and infrastructure.
"Currently, the government's focus is [to improve] the health and the economic sector, so the facilities at every health center must be adequate," said a spokesman for the NTT Provincial Government Marius Ardu Jelamu after the video went viral on Saturday, June 26.
These aspects should be prioritized in the local administration budget by giving priority to handling the Covid-19 and empowering the community's economy, Marius added.
"Therefore, the Ende Regent and the Regional House of Representatives [DRPD] must give full attention to these two sectors," Marius asserted.
He went on to say that hospitals, health centers, and other health facilities must be a major concern, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
"The regent must take swift, emergency, responsive steps related to the absence of personal protective equipment (PPE) in health centers, hospitals, and other health facilities so that cases like that in Ende will not happen again."
The incident occurred in Kanganara village of Detukeli district in Ende regency. The deceased identified by initial LL, a 63-years-old, died of Covid-19 on Thursday, June 24.
