JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Prominent Indonesian opposition politician Fadli Zon has announced that he tested positive for Covid-19.
The Gerindra Party stalwart and longtime President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo critic is the latest figure from his party to contract the coronavirus, after Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and his deputy Ahmad Riza Patria also tested positive in November 2020.
The head of the Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation of the Indonesian House of Representatives (BSKAP) announced his diagnosis on his Twitter page @fadlizon on Sunday, May 30.
“I finally [tested positive] for Covid-19 just as I am approaching my 50th birthday,” he admitted.

“[The diagnosis occurred] although I was already vaccinated twice last March, while I have a [satisfactory] antibody titer test of 250. If anything, this proves that Covid-19 is very real.”
Fadli added that he was hospitalized for further treatment, though he did not say which hospital he was treated in.
Gerindra Deputy Chairman Habiburokhman confirmed the news.
“[Fadli] is in stable condition and requires hospitalization to hasten his recovery. So far, no other Gerindra Party member in the House of Representatives who contracted Covid-19 after meeting with Fadli,” he said on Monday.
