JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo reiterated that the Covid-19 pandemic still exists, urging the regional leaders to take collaborative efforts in the fight against the spread of coronavirus.
Speaking to members of the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) of Riau Province, the President, who is popularly known as Jokowi, said that the handling of Covid-19 must be continued as people need to remain vigilant against the spread of coronavirus.
"I'd like to emphasize that the Covid-19 is not over yet. The management of tackling the Covid-19 lies with the governors and the staff along with the regional commanders and police chiefs and their staff, regents, mayors, and other relevant officials,” said Jokowi in a broadcast message via the Presidential Secretariat's official YouTube channel on Thursday, May 20.
Jokowi instructed all relevant parties to coordinate with each other during meetings and in the implementation of the programs to overcome the Covid-19 challenges. The experiences of tackling the Covid-19 at the national level can be used as an example at the regional level.
He has observed some positive outcomes in the country's efforts to tackle the Covid-19 challenges from the national level to the province, district, and city level.
Jokowi gave an example, in February this year, Indonesia recorded 176,000 active cases of Covid-19 throughout the country. Meanwhile, the current active Covid-19 cases nationally are down to 87,000.
"The decline reaches 50.5 percent. Thanks for all your hard work. The key is in the implementation of the micro-scale public activity restrictions (PPKM)," said Jokowi, referring to the program to flatten the curve of infections from the Covid-19.
