BATAM, KOMPAS.com - Indonesia's Ministry of Transportation prepares air transportation as alternative options of transportation services besides vessels to anticipate a massive influx of Indonesian migrant workers returning home.
Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said in a statement that the flow of returning Indonesian migrant workers from Malaysia and Singapore would continue to increase.
Therefore, Budi said, the ministry has prepared some measures to accelerate the process of reaching their respective hometown. The financially capable migrant workers are encouraged to go home by air, which schedules will be specifically coordinated with related parties. Meanwhile, special subsidized ships are still provided to accommodate the migrant workers who choose sea transportation to return home.
"Hopefully the steps taken will help the task force teams in the regions to immediately send the Indonesian migrant workers back to their respective hometown. They will undergo a series of rules until they are declared healthy and we can immediately send them back home, " said Budi on Saturday, May 1.
Budi lauded the steps taken by the special task force who handle the repatriation of the Indonesian migrant workers such as from Malaysia and Singapore. The process was done according to procedures during their arrival in Riau Islands.
Accompanied by the Governor of Riau Islands Ansar Ahmad, Budi had a closer look at how the procedures were implemented, including maintaining an appropriate physical distance between individuals, washing hands, and undergoing health checks before going to a quarantine center.
